After trying a roof top tent for the last year, a Eezi Awn Series 3 1200. I have been convinced that roof top tent is they way to go for my Jeep WJ. The criteria that was key is ease of setup and sleep quality, this meant hard shell roof top tent was the obvious choice. Due to personal preference i also wanted a tent made in the EU. That narrowed the search down to only a handful of brands. Primarily two brands; James Baroud and Autohome. In the end it came down to ease of contact, James Baroud had excellent sales team that could answer my questions and a tent that perfectly fit my needs for space, length (as I’m very tall) and load carrying capabilities. This unlike Autohome that took weeks to answer and didn’t have a off the shelf tent that fit my needs (but offered to build one).

I ended up going with a James Baroud Odyssey Nordic size L, a special version of the Odyssey model for the Nordic market.

Mounting was done on 4 front runner load bars, essentially removed the roof rack and just kept 4 Front Runner 145cm slats. Full write-up on the Front Runner roof rack for the Jeep WJ can be found here.

Opening in under 20 seconds and closing in under a minute, it served well during a recent excursion 9000km across Europe.
